Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) has ties with traditional culture and
industries in Kyoto, which has a history of over a millennium, and has
been advancing knowledge in engineering, design, and textile science. By
pursuing ‘human-friendly practical science,’ KIT and its two predecessors
have been serving our society for over a century.
KIT is committed to generating, disseminating, and preserving knowledge in science, technology and art that will serve the nation and the world in the 21st century. The institute is dedicated to advancing and educating students in ‘practical science for a new era.’ Its key concepts are ‘cultivation of both intellect and aesthetic appreciation in students,’ ‘care of the natural environment,’ and ‘collaboration between art and science.’ KIT's commitment to innovation has led to creation of a culture woven of tradition and cutting edge research. By extending the artistic mind and rich humanity, which underlie Japan’s manufacturing traditions, to theories of technology and design, KIT strives to establish ‘people-oriented technologies’ and thus contribute to the betterment of humankind.
To achieve these goals, KIT makes every effort:
- To open up a new paradigm of science and technology led by a sense of art and humanity and to apply knowledge for the benefit of society; - To explore and create original cutting-edge technologies which can foster harmony among people, the environment, industries and culture; and - To educate its students to lead scientific break-throughs and technological advances, to participate in the humane culture of the community, and to enrich their sense of art and humanity. |
