Academic Field of Engineering Design

Academic Field of Engineering DesignThe academic field of Engineering Design trains students to become professional engineers that deeply understand the manufacturing process and all its sub-stages from start to finish.

Engineering is a profession as well as an academic field in which the physical, chemical, biological, and social sciences are applied for practical purposes, especially in manufacturing. Manufacturing can be broken down into a cyclical series of processes: planning, design, prototype construction, and testing. Products are not manufactured unless they have passed through processes. Planning and design are essential before manufacturing product. Engineering Design is an academic field of research and education in which the planning, design, prototype constructions, and testing stages are integrated and treated as a single process. Students entering this academic field, master the skills needed to thoroughly understanding manufacturing processes, and then go on to apply those skills to creating innovative manufacturing approaches.

Curriculum Overview

Engineering Design covers a wide range of fields including electronics, information science, mechanical engineering, and system management. Educational programs in this field offer curriculums that combine classroom lecture with practical training. First year students can choose from one of four undergraduate programs: Electronics, Information Science, Mechanical and System Engineering, and Design Engineering and Management.

Academic Field of Engineering DesignMany graduates of the Academic Field of Engineering Design go on graduate school to pursue further professional qualifications, to engage in deeper research, or qualify for key industry-specific positions.
