Program Objectives |
 |
The role of design, and indeed the role of designers, has been becoming
increasingly important and influential in the 21st century. Since the world
is changing rapidly in nearly every direction, the Master's Program of
Design was designed to train students through the study and application
of economic, technological and cultural point of views. Designers in particular,
have to come to appreciate their role and responsibility in a society that
is becoming increasingly information and knowledge oriented.
We see
designers as visionaries, critical thinkers, and vital members not only of
corporations but also of communities. Designers as concept builders and
strategists will create and shape a wide range of cultural trends. The Master's
Program of Design, established in April 2006, offers specialization across a
wide spectrum design field subjects. Through course work and practical research
the program aims to develop qualified creative designers who will have the power
to contribute to the needs of the 21st century. The foundation of this program
rests on a deep insight into the structure of culture, society, economics and
environmental issues. |
Curriculum Overview |
 |
This program offers both advanced theoretical
instruction and practical research activities, such as design projects, in close
cooperation with industry leading companies.
The program's well-balanced curriculum equips students to become highly-skilled
professional designers. Program students will be given exposure to the
following fields:
(1) Product design for everyday use related to motor vehicles, electrical
appliances, furniture and so on;
(2) Communication design, including visual design planning and image analysis of commercial messages, corporate identity design, posters and printed matter, and so on;
(3) Interaction or interface design through methods found in various design
fields, such as web design, product usability design, and so on;
(4) Interior design for enriched life environments;
(5) Emerging design themes, such as design management, design activities for business incubation, universal design, ecological design, and so on;
(6) Scientific analyses of the relationship between the physical properties
of design work (color, shape, texture etc) and human perceptual, emotional
and aesthetic response/evaluation responses.
This program is expected to be especially popular with business-oriented
individuals who are committed to the design field or already professionals,
foreign students, executive officers, company owners, and administrative
managers.
