Interaction with Local Industry, Government Organizations & Educational Institutions |
 |
As an “open university” with the goal of giving something back to society in the form of highly specialized knowledge and technology, we at the Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) believe that universities should contribute to the development of the local community. To this end, KIT established the Cooperative Research Center, a facility for collaborative research projects with private, public and government organizations around Kyoto. This research encompasses all fields of advanced technology including the fields in which KIT has specialized since its founding.
Furthermore, based on the university's accumulated knowledge and expertise, KIT has established a scientific technology consultation office providing services outside the university. This office also works to promote science and technology exchanges, such as the sponsoring of technical training programs and research conferences. |
The Kyoto Forum for University-Industry Cooperation |
 |
The annual Kyoto Forum, established for university-industry cooperation, is a major event that promotes partnerships between industrial and academic institutions in the Kyoto region. Since 2002, KIT in cooperation with the Kyoto Industrial Association has cosponsored the forum to promote the importance of partnerships between industrial and academic institutions. During the fifth forum (2006), which was particularly well received, many seed technologies and innovative ideas for industrial production and business were conceived. |
KIT-Government-Industry Collaboration Seminar |
 |
To disseminate research results, findings and ideas involving new seed technologies throughout Japan, KIT has been hosting the KIT-Government-Industry Collaboration Seminar since 2001. The third seminar in Tokyo in October, 2003 was attended by 150 participants from the private and public sector, including graduates from KIT and government officials responsible for technology transfer. This seminar has continued to receive high praise as an event where business people can obtain information on state-of-the-art research and technological initiatives at KIT as well as information on KIT cooperative activities. |
Open Lectures |
 |
Today, as society becomes increasingly focused on leisure and personal development, there is a growing need for intellectual fulfillment. Indeed, a strong yearning for learning can be seen in adults from all walks of life. In order to meet these needs, KIT offers numerous classes that are open to the general public. The classes emphasize the same values that make our normal undergraduate classes so popular. |
Lifetime & Adult Education |
 |
Today, universities must reach beyond traditional-age
students. To this end, universities offer a broad range of educational
opportunities open to people returning to school after working in the public or
private sector and these who wish to continue their studies while working. KIT
offers various educational options suitable to such individuals. These include
evening programs, graduate degree programs open to working individuals, and
courses designed to suit lifetime education goals.

KIT's Working Partnerships with Other Universities |
 |
To provide KIT students with maximum educational opportunities, KIT has forged relationships with a number of other institutions in Kyoto. KIT students can attend courses and gain transferable credit at these schools as a result of these collaborative partnerships. KIT is working hard to promote these kinds of educational partnerships in various ways. Moreover, these relationships extend to both collaborative research and combined student club events.
At present, KIT has Academic Credit Transfer Agreements with the follwing partner institutions:
(1) Doshisha University
(2) Kyoto Prefectural University
(3) Kyoto University of Education
(4) The Consortium of Universities in Kyoto
