Drosophila, -the fruit or vinegar fly-, is an essential organism for the studies
of genes and complex biological functions in life sciences such as medicine,
pharmacology, agriculture, and the natural sciences. Of particular importance
is genetic research over the past 80 years has produced a large number
of new mutations of great value to life science research.
Drosophila Genetic Resource Center (DGRC) maintains stocks with various
mutations and chromosomal rearrangements, constructs new stocks, and distributes
information and Drosophila live resources. The center is also involved in advanced research of cell
division, gametogenesis, and fertilization. In collaboration with the International
Drosophila Stock Center in the USA, DGRC plays an important role as an
international Drosophila stock center. |
