The Science Meets Art - I course is part of the KIT program, Fostering
Innovation in Engineering Sensibilities, which received special funding
from a MEXT grant for distinctive educational programs at the university
level.
KIT design students participating in the Science Meets Art - I course,
studied theory of urban environments and theory of visual perception, prior
to discovering new and illusionary worlds through pinhole photography.
Forty of their photographs were exhibited at Miyako Messe Kyoto International
Exhibition Hall from December 18 to 24. The Exhibition entitled, Science
Meets Art - The Pinhole Camera, featured a lecture by Kyoto University
of Art and Design professor and president of the Pinhole Photo Art Society,
Yoshiyasu Suzuka. On December 20th he spoke to an attentive audience on Extracting the Unseen from the Obvious.
Students gained first hand knowledge of how the long (one to three second) exposure time of this medium eliminates moving objects from a frame, allowing still forms and even time, to predominate. |
