At Kyoto International Conference Center, Saturday June 14th, at the 7th Annual Forum for the Promotion of Industry, Academia and Government Collaboration, Macromolecular Science and Engineering Associate Professor Hiroshi JINNAI and JEOL Co. Ltd. were awarded the 6th “Minister of MEXT Award of Merit.”

The award recognizes Professor Jinnai and JEOL for combining computer tomography with transmission electron microscopy to achieve a device capable of direct three-dimensional nanostructural visualization, and developing new technology to process samples into rod shapes by combining nano-processing with the use of the above device to achieve 0.5 nm spatial analysis ? the smallest currently possible in the world.

This device is expected to have significant influence in the creation, development and analysis of nano-scale materials and far-reaching effects in the fields of life science, energy and beyond.
