| Exhibition of Modern Czech Posters Featuring Josef Flejsar |
 |
The Czech Republic is home to the beautiful city of Prague. Relatively unharmed by war, it offers a wonderful sample of architecture ranging from Art Nouveau, Renaissance, and Gothic to Ultra-modern. This home to well-preserved cityscapes was a fertile ground for art and culture until the imposition of communist rule. From then until regime change in 1980, only posters advertising films and exhibitions were free of government imposed creative restrictions. These circumstances prompted painters and graphic designers from this region to produce an original design style, now known for its audacious, unconventional interpretations and cutting wit.
Josef Flejsar (b. 1922) is a prime example of artists from this period.
In the 1990’s, he became sought after in international circles and was
the 1998 winner of the World's Most Memorable Poster Competition (Paris,
France). KIT Museum and Archives is pleased to present posters featuring
the fluid, freestyle drawings of Josef Flejsar and Czech film and exhibition
posters from 1960 to 1970 by other Czech artists such as Milan Grygar,
Josef Vyletal, Zdenek Ziefler and Karel Teissig. We hope you will take
advantage of this opportunity to view these and other important posters,
seldom seen in Japan. |
