of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Visits KIT

Dominican Republic Minister Dra. Ligia Amada Melo de Cardona of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and her delegation visited the KIT Matsugasaki Campus and the Drosophila Genetic Research Center at the Saga Campus on a fact-finding tour on October 5th and 6th.
Five years ago the Center for Genetic Resource Curator Education and Development
was established at KIT. This graduate school center will undertake scientific
research into biogenetic resources and the preservation of biodiversity
while training students to become experts in these fields. As of April,
the spectrum of the curriculum has been expanded to be globally inclusive.
The Program for Genetic Resource Curator Development has now begun and will promote and contribute to genetic resource education at the international level. Through mutual exchange of personnel with countries utilizing and countries in possession of the genetic resources available through this program, we will continue to promote and maintain strong international affiliations. We feel assured that an educational program with a truly global perspective will arise from this educational environment.
The Dominican Republic holds a wealth of biogenetic resources. Minister Melo of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, a competent authority in higher education, visited us in conjunction with the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) which participates in the curator development program. Minister Melo and her delegation inspected the research projects of the Center for Drosophila Genetic Resources, our university system, the progress made with the biogenetic resource program to date and discussed strengthening ties, collaboration and partnerships. Thanks to this visit, the Dominican Republic and KIT will enjoy a closer relationship and we can look forward to the continuous development of academic exchange. |
