| Exhibition: Signs of the Times, Viewing Modern Europe Through Posters |
 |
| The birth of the modern poster was concurrent with the development of civil
society near the end of the 19th century. Technological advancements made multi-color printing possible
and posters announcing new products and flamboyant functions drew the attention
of the whole world. Inseparable from modern society, posters of this time
mirror the culture and people of that time. A glimpse of the lives and
times of modern Europeans: balls held nightly, theatrical performances,
merchandise made possible by mechanization, leisure travel and the atmosphere
of the life and times of people during war, can be gained from the representative
posters specially selected from our archives for this exhibition. |
