The ECO Shirt Movement
As part of the Exposition for Creation and Implementation of Human Resource
Development Programs to Support the Preservation and Revitalization of
Cultural Heritage in Kyoto, the Culture and Artistic Capital of Japan,
KIT students are developing activities to preserve and revitalize both
tangible and intangible cultural heritage in Kyoto. The preservation and
revitalization of cultural heritage around the world by students in each
heritage region is also being promoted and the effect of these activities
is rippling out all over Japan and the world.
Last September, we announced our line of business shirts made of summer cotton kimono, aiming to revitalize traditional arts by the creation of designs that bring traditional styles and motifs into current use
After making several improvements to the business shirt designs, the ECO Shirt Movement added shirts made of organic cotton and light summer cotton cloth to the exhibition, held to benefit persons affected by the earthquake.
During this exhibition at Kyoto City Hall , donations are being collected
which will go to the Ashinaga Organization to benefit children orphaned
in the Tohoku Pacific Earthquake .
As part of our support for the persons in the disaster affected areas,
we will make a gift of an eco shirt to the first 50 persons, who register
with KIT and make a donation to the Ashinaga Fundraising Drive, sponsored
by the Ashinaga Organization.
Traditional motifs from the disaster-affected regions have been incorporated into the ECO Shirt Movement designs. We are also planning a charity eco shirt workshop in support of the affected areas.
The ECO Shirt Movement works toward caring for the planet and culture
to leave a beautiful world for the next generation.
Business shirts congruent with Japanese climate and lifestyle and in keeping
with tradition, were suggested by members of the ECO Shirts Movement. |
