Discussions with Poet, Shuntaro Tanigawa, on Radio
The current KIT Museum and Archives exhibit is entitled, The Radio Era: Featuring the Collection of Shuntaro Tanigawa. KIT is delighted to announce that Poet Shuntaro Tanigawa, a self-proclaimed “radio-obsessed person,” has donated to KIT his lovingly assembled collection of about 180 radios, which he acquired over a period of many years.

In conjunction with this exhibition, we held an event in March 2011 entitled, Discussing Radio with Shuntaro Tanigawa. Museum and Archives Director and Professor, Seishi Namiki, joined the poet on stage and encouraged him to speak about his first encounter with radio and share some anecdotes concerning his collection and what he finds fascinating about radios.

The evening concluded with Mr. Tanigawa reading three of his poems concerning radio. The poet’s unique style caused the evening to be interspersed with friendly laughter. Mr. Tanigawa warmed the space like the vacuum tubes he has preserved and protected all these years. This is one audience that went home with warmer hearts than when they came.

The current exhibition will be open through May 8, 2011.
