The Culture Minister of Denmark participated in the opening ceremony of the “Collapsible Chair Work Exhibition”

The opening ceremony of the “Collapsible Chair (folding chair) Work Exhibition”, was sponsored by the KYOTO Design Lab as part of a joint student project between the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Kyoto Institute of Technology. The ceremony took place on February 8 2017, with the participation of the Danish Minister for Culture H. E. Mrs. Mette Bock, the Ambassador of Denmark in Japan H.E. Mr. Freddy Svane and other officials.

Various exchange projects are planned between Denmark and Japan this year, as a year commemorating the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In light of this, KIT held a student workshop with the school of design of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, which is a partner institution. As the opening ceremony of the exhibition that opened the workshop’s results to the public, the Minister for Culture and the Danish ambassador to Japan carried out the ribbon-cutting together with KIT President Furuyama.

In her speech, the Danish Minister for Culture mentioned that “Denmark and Japan have a long history of interacting with each other in the design field and the distinguished Danish designers who are active now are also deeply inspired by Japanese culture. I anticipate and hope for further cultural development and exchange between the two countries by continuing creative collaboration among people of next generation. “

H. E. Mrs. Mette Bock and her delegation enjoyed watching each chair and eagerly listened to the students’ explanation about their innovative ideas and designs.
