Delegation from 5 Central Asian countries visited KIT

On March 22, 2017, a delegation from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan visited our university. The delegation, consisting of 15 persons involved with higher education, visited KIT as part of visits to universities, vocational training schools, corporations, etc. under the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) Project for Developing Advanced Human Resources. During the meeting, KIT introduced its projects as well as its activities on developing advanced human resources in the fields of fiber science and engineering and mechanical engineering.

In the beginning, Professor Tetsuya Sato of Fiber Science and Engineering made an introduction on human resource development in the textile industry. It was explained that while the textile industry is expanding globally at each stage of materials and processing, universities that specialize in textile research in Japan are decreasing and therefore company proposals for joint research with KIT are on the rise. In addition, KIT’s diversity of perspectives with regard to fiber science and the fact that KIT has been accepting international students from numerous countries, as well as the possibility for student exchange with those countries, were explained. Subsequently, Professor Minoru Ota of Mechanical Engineering explained about the Center for Manufacturing Technology; the delegation seemed to have been particularly interested in the practical process design, which carries out basic education and internship in interdisciplinary manufacturing. After the meeting, the delegation enthusiastically asked questions about the curriculum and the administration of the university and showed interest in future interaction with KIT.

KIT is considering moving forward with the relationship-building process with those countries through the JICA and other projects.
