NASA chief scientist, Dr. Gale Allen, lectures at KIT

On Monday, October 2, 2017, we were honored to host a special lecture given by Dr. Gale Allen, chief scientist at NASA (American Aeronautics and Space Administration), in cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan in Osaka and Kobe. She explored the theme of “NASA Space Exploration Next Step” and talked about NASA missions, specific duties, future development of space research, and more. More than 100 faculty attended, listening attentively to learn more about NASA’s current endeavors. During the question-and-answer session following the lecture, someone in the audience even posed the question, “Do aliens exist?”
After the lecture, our female researchers and students were provided a cozy space where they could comfortably discuss their career development. When participating students asked how they might be able to work at NASA, Dr. Allen advised them that enthusiasm for their research was vital. She also stressed the importance of having a trusted mentor to help you think flexibly. Even though she is a busy top ranking NASA scientist, we found she was generous with her time and genuinely cared about the people around her.
