Re: KIT Coronavirus Policy as of May 8, 2023

 In accordance with the status change of novel coronavirus infection to a “Category 5 infection,” the government’s basic response policy and industry-specific guidelines will be abolished, and the “Kyoto Institute of Technology Manual for Prevention of the Spread of New Coronavirus Infections” will be discontinued as of May 8. In addition, on and after May 8, KIT’s novel coronavirus infection recommendations will essentially be restored to their pre-pandemic state. Further information is provided below.

KIT’s response to new coronavirus infection starting May 8, 2023:

  • Basic infection control measures: KIT is not issuing any directives, but voluntary infection control measures will be taken.
  • Classes: In principle, classes will be held place face-to-face. However, online classes are also acceptable if they offer special educational benefits, such as improved quality of learning or more active learning, etc., compared to face-to-face classes. (*Periodic examinations will be conducted in person, on campus.)
  • Research activities: No restrictions specified
  • Extracurricular activities: No restrictions specified
  • Admission Examinations: Conducted on campus.
    (*In cases where in-person examinations are problematic due to entry restrictions to Japan, online 
    examinations may be conducted.)
  • Cafeteria: Acrylic panels will be removed and seat numbers will return to pre-pandemic conditions.
  • Library: Open as usual: Weekdays 9:00-21:00, Saturdays 10:00-17:00 (Closed on Sundays and holidays)
  • Window service: No restrictions specified
  • Events, etc.: No restrictions specified
  • Domestic travel: No restrictions specified
  • International travel: You are requested to refrain from visiting countries and regions with a Ministry of Foreign Affairs “Infectious Disease Risk Information” Level 3 (or higher) rating. Travel for business, study abroad, etc. to Level 2 and 1 countries/regions is permitted.
  • Campus Gates:
    【Weekdays】
    The Central Gate (East) and Central Gate (West) open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m.
    (The smaller adjacent gates remain open.)
    The large gate doors of the West Gate, Umabashi Gate, and the East Gate are always closed.
    (The smaller adjacent gates are open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm)
    The Northwest Gate (nearest the subway entrance) opens at 6:00 am and closes at midnight.
    【Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays】
    The Central Gate (East) and Central Gate (West) are closed all day
    (The smaller adjacent gates remain open.)
    Both the main and smaller adjacent gate doors of the West Gate, Umabashi Gate, and East Gate are closed.
    The Northwest Gate (nearest the subway entrance) opens at 6:00 am and closes at midnight.
  • Telecommuting: Temporary telecommuting measures are no longer in effect. (In principle, telecommuting is no longer permitted). (A future telecommuting agreement will be announced at a later date.)
  • Meetings on Campus: In principle, meetings are to be held face to face. (Online or high-flex meetings may be held at the discretion of directors, chairpersons, etc.)
