KIT-ASEAN Joint Seminar 2025 was held

The KIT-ASEAN Joint Seminar 2025 was held on December 12, 2025, at Hanoi Medical University (HMU), Vietnam. This seminar is the successor project to the Japan-Vietnam Seminar, which has been held since 2002; this marked its 22nd iteration.
Through this project, we have strengthened the research exchange network among Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia. Following FY 2018, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) selected our efforts as a Core-to-Core Program for FY 2023 (FY 2023-FY 2025).
This year, HMU—the Vietnamese base for this project—hosted the seminar, attended by approximately 100 researchers and students from partner institutions in Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia. From KIT, Assoc. Prof. FUKUZAWA Masayuki, the project’s principal investigator, and Vice President KAMEI Kaeko participated, along with five researchers.
In the presence of the HMU Chairwoman, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong, the seminar began with opening remarks delivered by HMU Rector Prof. Nguyen Huu Tu MD., PhD. and its former Chairman Prof. Ta Thanh Van MD., PhD. The program then continued with 24 research presentations organized into two sections: biology and IT. Each presentation included a Q&A session with the audience. Several presentations exceeded their scheduled time, demonstrating the high level of interest.
Following the presentations, Assoc. Prof. Fukuzawa moderated a panel discussion on the theme “Past Achievements and Future Prospects of International Exchange between KIT and ASEAN.” Based on the network established over the past 20 years, the participants engaged in diverse and proactive discussions on how to strengthen future collaboration. Audience members also contributed comments and questions.

Throughout the program, the event reaffirmed the existing cooperative relationships between KIT and universities in ASEAN, fostering expectations for deeper collaboration in the future.
After the seminar, Prof. Kamei, who will retire next March, gave an honorary lecture. During her one-hour lecture, she reviewed the history of the research projects with international students, including those from Vietnam and other countries, and presented the latest research findings. Many former KIT international students who studied under Prof. Kamei, now serving as faculty members at universities in Vietnam and other countries, attended the lecture. The atmosphere was warm and friendly throughout. To conclude the lecture, Prof. Van, representing the KIT alumni, expressed gratitude for Prof. Kamei’s long-standing achievements in education and research. KIT graduates presented her with a commemorative gift.
