私は実践的な英語のコミュニケーション能力向上と、海外の研究者の研究に対するアプローチを学ぶことを目的に、JoinTECH-Labのプログラムに約3ヶ月間参加しました。
　滞在期間中は現地の研究者の助手としてマグネシウム合金の表面改質研究に従事しました。その中で、現地の研究者たちが活発に議論や考察を重ねて研究を進める姿は、学部時代に一人で研究を進めることが多かった私にとって非常に大きな刺激となりました。この経験を通して、今後の修士課程での研究や、将来社会に出た際の自分自身の研究スタイルについて見直すきっかけを得ることができました。
　英語圏への海外旅行経験もなく、英語での会話や海外の方との交流に興味を持ち始めたばかりだったため、出国当初は研究や海外での生活に不安を感じていました。しかし、研究室の方々を始め、スーパーマーケットで接する地域の方々もとても温かく、日々を過ごしていくうちに不安よりも積極性や好奇心があふれる毎日へと変わっていきました。
　一学生である私に対し、ウーディネ大学や本学の国際課、ELIA MARIN先生をはじめとする多くの支援により、恵まれた環境でグローバルな視野を広げる貴重な経験を得ることができました。この経験は、私にとってかけがえのない大きな財産となりました。

JoinTECHプログラムに参加する人へのメッセージ
　JoinTECHの留学制度は本当に素晴らしいものだと思います。上記のとおり、たくさんの方々がサポートをしてくださります。そのため、全てを自分一人でこなさなければならないという大きな不安を抱えることなく留学に挑むことができます。　
　しかし、手厚いサポートに身を任せて受動的な生活が続くことはありません。特に現地についてからは、能動的に動き、自分で物事を判断し、研究や生活を進めていく必要があります。だからこそ主体性や、想定外のトラブルに対する判断力、行動力も養うことができます。特に生活面の苦労に関しては、日本で同じ環境下で生活していては得られない貴重な経験になりました。
　たくさんの新しい知見を得て、異なる文化に触れることができる。こんなに魅力的な機会はそう多くないと思うので、少しでも海外での共同研究や生活に興味があるなら、思い切って参加することをおすすめします。また、現地のご飯がおいしいことも魅力的でした。

Student Report:
I participated in the JoinTECH-Lab program for about three months with the goal of improving my practical English communication skills and learning how researchers from other countries approach their work.
During my stay, I was involved in a research project on the surface modification of magnesium alloys, working alongside local researchers.　Seeing how the local researchers actively engaged in discussions and deliberations to advance their research was a tremendous inspiration to me, as I had often worked on my research alone during my undergraduate years. This experience has led me to reevaluate my research style, both for my upcoming master’s program and for my future career.

Since I had only recently begun to take an interest in communicating in English and interacting with people from other countries and had never traveled to an English-speaking country before I felt anxious not only about my research but also about daily life when I first arrived. However, everyone from the members of the laboratory to the locals I met at the supermarkets was incredibly warm and welcoming. As time went on, my days became filled with enthusiasm and curiosity rather than anxiety.

I am grateful that, as a student, I was able to gain this valuable, international experience in such a supportive environment, thanks to the assistance of the University of Udine, my home university’s International Affairs Office, Professor Marin, and many others. This experience has become a great asset that I will carry with me into the future.

Message to future participants of the JoinTECH program
This program is truly amazing. As mentioned above, there are so many people who support you. Thanks to this support, you can study abroad without worrying about having to handle everything on your own.

However, this doesn’t mean that you can simply rely on this extensive support. You won’t be able to take a passive approach. Especially once you arrive in the host country, you’ll need to take the initiative, make your own decisions, and manage both your research and daily life. That’s why you’ll be able to develop a sense of initiative, as well as the judgment and ability to take action when faced with unexpected problems. In particular, the challenges of daily life provided a valuable experience that I could never have gained by staying in the same environment in Japan.

You’ll gain a wealth of new insights and be exposed to different cultures. I don’t think there are many opportunities as appealing as this, so if you have even the slightest interest in collaborative research or living abroad, I highly recommend taking the plunge and participating! Oh, and the food is so good!!
