Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati Representatives Attend Symposium at KIT

The ASP-16 (Symposium on Advances in Sustainable Polymers, 2016) was held at KIT from August 4 to 6, 2016, and funded by the Japan Society for The Promotion of Science as a part of its Bilateral Researcher Exchange Program.

Prior to the symposium, Dr. Gautam Biswas, the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and lecturer at this symposium, discussed the biobased material research environment at IITG with President Furuyama. The two university representatives exchanged opinions about the further application of biobased materials in current markets and the possible directions for future research. The two parties affirmed their determination to continue active collaboration.

At the seminar, the lecturers invited from India, Spain and the US presented keynote lectures on such topics as “Valorisation of agro-food by-products to obtain biopolymer with advanced functionalities,” “A bacterium that degrades and assimilates poly(ethylene terephthalate)” and “Fabrication Strategies of Bionano-Fillers and Their Influence on the Performance of Bioplastics.” A total of 131 participants gathered and actively debated the merits of various biobased materials, their development and application.
