Japan-Italy-Vietnam Trilateral Symposium “New approaches for sustainable plant protection from parasites and pests” is a one day symposium organized by Kyoto Institute of Technology, University of Verona (Italy) and Can Tho University (Vietnam).
In this difficult time when the threat of pathogens is affecting people so severely, we must rise to the challenge of developing and communicating a “cleaner” approach to plant health. According to the One Health concept, multifaceted solutions are essential to a more sustainable way of life.

病原体の脅威が人々に深刻な影響を与えているこの多難な時代に、私たちは植物の健康に対する「よりクリーンな」アプローチを開発し、伝えていくことに挑まなければなりません。One Healthの概念においては、より持続可能な生活を送るために、多角的な解決策が不可欠です。

Prof. Kaeko Kamei

Kaeko Kamei is professor of Biomolecular Functional Chemistry at the Faculty of Molecular Chemistry and Engineering, Kyoto Institute of Technology. Her scientific activities are focused on two topics: screening for natural anti-microbials including bacteriophages and anti-microbial compounds from herbs, screening for natural anti- metabolic syndrome agents using disease model Drosophila.

Nguyen Thi Thu Nga

Nguyen Thi Thu Nga is Associate professor of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, Can Tho University, Can Tho city, Vietnam. Major interests of research: Biological control of tropical plant diseases using plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and Bacteriophages.

Sheridan Woo

Sheridan Woo is Associate Professor of Plant pathology at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Naples – Federico II, Italy. Her scientific activity focuses on biocontrol of plant diseases, plant biostimulants, R&D of biotechnologies for bioformulations, plant-pathogen-antagonist interactions. She is member of the UniNa Task Force on Microbiome Studies, and the Interuniversity Center for Studies on Bioinspired Agro-environmental Technology (BAT Center).

Assoc. Prof.
Ken Komatsu

Ken Komatsu is Associate Professor of Plant Pathology at the Graduate School of Agriculture, Tokyo University of Agriculture & Technology (TUAT). He has mainly studied plant RNA viruses, especially those causing necrotic diseases in ornamental lilies, and the molecular mechanisms of their pathogenicity. Recently, his research has expanded to include fungal viruses and fungicide resistance of fungal pathogens.

Prof. Quirico Migheli

Quirico Migheli is professor of Plant pathology at the Department of Agricultural Sciences, University of Sassari, Italy. Since 2016 is Editor-in-Chief of the T&F journal Biocontrol Science and Technology. Currently chair of the BSc degree in Security and International Cooperation at the University of Sassari. His research interests include: food safety and food security issues; molecular and physiological plant-pathogen interactions; biological control of mycotoxin-producing fungi; risk assessment of biocontrol agents.

Sakihito Kitajima

Sakihito Kitajima is associate professor of Plant Molecular Biology at Faculty of Applied Biology, Kyoto Institute of Technology. His scientific activities are focused on latex-mediated plant defense against microbes and insects.

Elodie Vandelle

Elodie Vandelle is Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology at the Department of Biotechnology, University of Verona, Italy. She teaches “Phytopathological Biotechnologies” and “Sustainable Control of Plant Diseases” in MSc degrees. Her research interests include: mechanisms of bacterial virulence, in particular related to the interkingdom communication between phytopathogenic bacteria and their hosts; molecular plant-pathogen interactions; innovative green strategies in plant protection.
